Aveer on Piano

Plays by ear 8 years old Makes up his own tunes

Aveer on Piano

Eight years old and happiest when nobody tells him what to play. He invents tunes at the piano, finds the chords under anything he hears, and reads the sheet music when he ABSOLUTELY has to!

Milestones

The journey so far

ABRSM Piano Performance grades are marked out of 150. A hundred is a Pass, 120 a Merit and 130 a Distinction. The small rulers show where each exam landed.

  1. ABRSM Grade 1 Piano Performance

His first exam, filmed at home and marked in London. Pass.

  2. ABRSM Grade 2 Piano Performance

One month later, one grade up, and into the Merit band.

  3. Independence Day

Played Jana Gana Mana in a piano arrangement sized for his hands, once through, the way an anthem should be.

  4. Spardha School Idol, semi-final

A Million Dreams. The judges singled out his dynamics and the way he voiced the melody.

  5. Spardha School Idol, final: first prize

Won the Grades 1 to 5 bracket with Flower Dance, a 62-bar arrangement cut to fit an eight-year-old's reach, and for once played it from the sheet. The judges praised his reading and his choice of piece.

  6. Grade 3 begins

Choosing pieces from the ABRSM 2027 syllabus with his teacher. Scales, arpeggios and a lot of counting out loud.

About

About Aveer

Aveer grinning in his teal glasses

Aveer is eight and would rather invent a tune than read one. Ask him to play something and you will usually get a piece that did not exist five minutes earlier: he plays by ear, finds the chords under a melody he likes, and keeps changing the ending until it makes him laugh. Flowing, story-telling music is his favourite kind, which is how a Japanese jazz-hop track called Flower Dance ended up winning him a school competition.

He does the proper stuff too. ABRSM Grade 1 in May 2026, Grade 2 with a Merit a month later, and Grade 3 now in preparation with two or three lessons a week. He has small hands, so most of what he plays is arranged to fit them, and he finishes more pieces with a glissando than the composers intended.

Videos on this page are posted by his parents. New ones appear as they happen. For invitations to play, or anything else, email his dad at .
